Relax in this odd-looking terra cotta pub, which started life in 1652 as a coffee house, London’s first, in fact.

In the seventeenth century, much of the business of the day was conducted in coffee houses – which is how insurance giant Lloyd’s began – and the businesslike attitude is reflected in the severe bare boards-and-benches interior. It’s recently reopened after renovation.
