Park Crescent East, W1
The eastern curve of Park Crescent East, the pillared semicircle south of Marylebone Road, is where Richard Hannay (Robert Donat) leaves the milkman’s horse and cart he borrows after the murder of the mysterious woman at the beginning of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1935 film The Thirty Nine Steps. Hannay supposedly lives at ‘122 Portland Place’, but the exterior was recreated in the studio and the grand six-lane road is reduced to the width of a minor sidestreet.
