Science Museum, Exhibition Road, South Kensington, SW7
Another marvel in South Kensington’s complex of great museums. It's in the Science Museum (and, yes, that is the museum's real Making The Modern World gallery) that Alex Rider (Alex Pettyfer) thwarts the attempt by Darrius Sayles (Mickey Rourke) to get the British PM to launch the virus-laden computer network in Stormbreaker.
There are enough hands-on exhibits to make you want to be a kid again, and the Making The Modern World gallery contains such groundbreaking icons as Stephenson’s Rocket, Babbage’s Difference Engine (the origin of the computer), Crick and Watson’s DNA ‘double helix’ model and the Apollo 10 command module. And, apart from special exhibits, admission to the museum is free.
