Queens Gate Lodge, 23a Elvaston Place, SW7
Two years after Hammer had dropped the Gothic trappings of the series and brought Dracula to Swinging London with Dracula AD1972, the Count has turned property developer for The Satanic Rites Of Dracula. It’s not quite as toe-curlingly kitsch as the previous film but Christopher Lee’s ‘DD Denham’ feels more like a Bond villain than immortal vampire.
Queens Gate Lodge, 23a Elvaston Place at Elvaston Mews, became ‘The Keeley Foundation for Science’, where Professor Van Helsing (Peter Cushing) confronts Professor Keeley (Freddie Jones) who, for some – probably unpleasant – reason, is incubating bubonic plague viruses.
