St Cuthbert’s Church, 50 Philbeach Gardens, SW5

Shyly hiding away behind a screen of trees on a quiet crescent off Warwick Road in Earl's Court, it's not difficult to miss St Cuthbert’s Church. And if you notice it, the glum, red-brick exterior is rather forbidding.

However, the interior is somethiing else – a remarkable display of High Catholic Arts and Crafts. You can see it, dressed up to become the interior of the royal palace (St Pancras Station supplied the exterior) for the opening party scene, “Come live with me and be my love...”, in Richard Loncraine’s Thirties-set Richard III.

The church is not generally open outside of services.
