25 Powis Square, W11

Powis SquareEven more seedy than Alfie’s gaff was the hideaway of reclusive ex-rock star Turner Purple (Mick Jagger) in Nicolas Roeg and Donald Cammell’s dazzlingly fractured Performance.

Filmed in 1968 but left on the shelf by a gobsmacked Warner Bros for two years, it’s now recognised as one of the most original and influential British films. You’re no longer likely to find magic mushrooms left on the doorstep of the smart townhouse at 25 Powis Square. The peeling paint has been smartened up and the rubble-strewn site in front of the house is now a railed-off playground.
