St Peter’s Italian Church, 136 Clerkenwell Road, EC1

St Peter's Italian Church, ClerkenwellGeorge (Bob Hoskins) follows Anderson (Clarke Peters) to this church in Neil Jordan’s Mona Lisa, where he eventually meets the elusive Cathy (Kate Hardie).

St Peter’s seems a little coy about its appearance in the film, perhaps due to the content, and George enters through an unremarkable side entrance on Back Hill. In fact, the elaborate main entrance can be seen around the corner on Clerkenwell Road.

St Peter's Italian ChurchSt Peter's was built in 1863 for Italian immigrant workers and was, at that time, the only church in Britain in the Roman Basilican style – it’s modelled on San Crisogono in Trastevere, Rome.
