St Paul’s
The station is, of course, named after St Paulís Cathedral, which occupies a special place in the cinema of London.
If we are to believe Hollywood, its dome has the amazing property of being visible from every window in the capital.
This is where Pip arrives in London in David Leanís 1946 film of Charles Dickens' Great Expectations. The director returned to St Paulís in 1962 to film the acquaintances of TE Lawrence offering a chorus of opinions after his memorial service in Lawrence of Arabia.
The royal family assembles for a publicity coup on the steps at the end of The Madness of King George.
The cathedral looks at its most imposing by night, floodlit. Richard Widmark flees his creditors across the wide sweep of steps at the opening of the excellent Fifties film noir Night and the City. The illuminated frontage glows in the background as Bob Hoskins and Helen Mirren drive down Ludgate Hill in The Long Good Friday.
Opposite St Paulís, Jimi Mistry robs a cashpoint customer in Born Romantic.
