St Augustine’s Kilburn, Kilburn Park Road, NW6

Highlander, St Augustine's KilburnA deliriously gobsmacking jumble of accents: Scot Sean Connery plays Spanish nobleman Ramirez while Frenchman Christophe Lambert is the immortal Scot Macleod. This enjoyably flashy nonsense (made by a director of TV ads, and does it show) is set in Scotland and New York, but quite a bit of it was filmed in London.

It must be one of the few times anyone has attempted to pass off Kilburn as Manhattan, but the huge, rather severe, red-brick St Augustine’s Kilburn, opposite Rudolph Road is the ‘New York’ Church where Connor McLeod (Christopher Lambert) meets the insinuatingly blasphemous Kurgan (Clancy Brown) in Highlander.

The church is open to visitors on Saturday mornings between 10 and 12, and Tuesdays between 9 and 12.
