Natural History Museum, Cromwell Road, South Kensington, SW7

Greystoke, Natural History MuseumWest of the Victoria & Albert Museum, and hugely revamped to appeal to kids (with animatronic dinosaurs and the insect galleries redubbed ‘Creepy Crawlies’), South Ken’s great museum is where Tarzan (Christopher Lambert) is, unwisely, invited to the opening of the ‘Greystoke Wing’ of the museum in Hugh Hudson’s Greystoke, the Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes.

Ted Danson plans to reveal the existence of the Loch Ness monster here in Loch Ness, and the stunning Minerals Galley turns up, beautifully illuminated, in Basic Instinct 2.

I have to say, my own favourite appearance is in the excellent, though largely forgotten, 1950 nuclear thriller Seven Days to Noon.

Apart from the natural wonders, the museum itself is an architectural feast of terracotta arches, columns and stairways. And, yes, entry is FREE!)
