Drapers’ Hall, Throgmorton Street, EC2

Drapers HallThe various old trades and guilds of the City own lavish meeting halls, even though there are precious few apothecaries, skinners or tallow-chandlers currently operating in the Square Mile.

One such, the Drapers’ Hall on Throgmorton Street, just north of the Bank of England, has twice been seen on screen as the interior of Russian locations. In Goldeneye it was the forbidding gilt and wood ‘St Petersburg’ council chamber, where General Ourumov learns that Natalya has survived the Goldeneye detonation.

While in Phillip Noyce’s film of The Saint it was the ‘Tretiak Oil & Gas Industries Moscow HQ’, where the billionaire oil magnate stages his televised press conference.

Closer to home, in Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London, the hall became the interior of ‘Buckingham Palace’: the Livery Hall was used for the reception, and the grandiose Drawing Room for the climactic concert.

The hall isn’t generally open to the public.
