Dance With A Stranger, Mike Newell's 1985 account of the case of Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be hanged for murder in Britain, is set in the early 1950s. This apartment block became the entrance to the nightclub (“These places are glorified brothels...”) in which the sadly devoted Desmond Cussen (Ian Holm) introduces Ruth to upper-class wastrel – and her ultimate victim – David Blakeley (Rupert Everett).
