St Dunstan's-in-the-East, St Dunstan’s Hill, EC3
Village of the Damned, the excellent 1960 film version of John Wyndham’s The Midwich Cuckoos, saw the women of ‘Midwich’ giving birth to sinister blond-haired children. For the 1964 sequel, Children of the Damned, however, the kiddies have become a multi-ethnic bunch who use their alien powers for world peace, or some such. St Dunstan’s-in-the-East, St Dunstan’s Hill, north of Lower Thames Street, is the deserted church where they hole up.
The church was severely damaged by bombing during the Blitz in 1941 and, although the tower is intact, the ruined body of the church has been turned into a garden.
